The Greater Bay Classic offers a great opportunity for players to experience competitive hockey in a fun, challenging, and new environment, and allows our players to gain experience and exposure by competing against top talent from around the world.
We believe these opportunities are crucial for the development of our players, as they provide a chance to compete against some of the world's top players, thus further advancing their skills and abilities on the ice. This tournament represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for both parents and players to experience different cultures and leagues across multiple continents, thereby creating lifelong memories.
GREATER BAY CLASSIC
The inaugural Greater Bay Classic is shaping up to be one of the premiere events of the 2024 hockey season. Teams from Australia, Korea, China, Thailand and Hong Kong will be gathered together April 28th - May 1st, 2024 at the world-class Discovery Bay Ice Rink to compete in U9, U11, U13 and U15 divisions. We are expecting strong competition and sportsmanship while providing a unique experience for players from around the world to meet each other and gain valuable experience at the international level.

Rules
- Overaged players are not allowed to play
- Teams are only allowed a maximum of 5 under-aged players
- A minimum of 4 teams are required for each division.
- Expected level of play –AA
- Maximum 15 players & 2 goalies
Eligibility - Birth Years are strictly monitored
Game Format (For All Divisions)
- 5 on 5 plus goalie
- Running Time –3 periods X 13 mins
- 3 min Overtime (3 on 3) if needed. If no team scores, the game will remain a tie.
- Stop time in the final 2 mins if the score is within 2 goals or in the final minute of OT.
- In the playoffs, if the game is tied, the teams will play a 5 min overtime period –3 on 3. Except in the Championship game where a second overtime period will be played. If still tied, a 3 player shootout will determine the winner.
- Awards presentation will take place after each Championships Final.
- Team standings are based on –Most points, most wins, head to head, least goals against, higher goals for, least penalty minutes, greater goal difference and puck toss.
- Teams should have both a dark and a light set of jerseys and matching socks.
- Home team - Dark
- Away team - White
- Final Rules and regulations and confirmation of the game format will be released prior to the start of the tournament.
- Statistics and results –will be posted at each game
FAQ
1. What is the refund policy?
- No refunds on any excepted registrations. If for any reasons other than an act of God or force majeure, that the tournament is canceled, full refunds will be given.
2. Can we save a spot in the tournament?
- Teams are only confirmed once payment has been received.
3. When is my team expected to arrive in Hong Kong and do we need visas?
- Team should arrive by April 27th to be ready to play by April 28th. However, you can adjust your arrival time after the schedule has been released on March 15th and arrive one day before your competition begins. Teams should plan their departure on or after Wednesday May 1st. Most passports will not require a visa to enter into Hong Kong.
4. For Youth divisions, are we allowed any over-aged players?
- No - No exceptions are permitted unless approved by the Tournament Committee.
5. What if we only have 1 set of jerseys?
- We highly recommend that teams prepare BOTH a dark and white set of jerseys with matching socks. If there is a colour clash situation where both teams only have one set, the team designated as the visitor will be required to change with a generic set.
6. Is there storage at the rink?
- We are working with the mall management to secure an area for gear storage.
